0.93 progress


In working toward the goal of completing the 0.93 update that will feature the first part of chapter 2, I am introduced to a new feature released by RenPy version 7 that allows layered images to be composited on the fly. With that new feature I am reworking all of the major character sprites to have layered images, to reduce static images. This also enables me to redraw some of the character's poses, so more of their portrait is displayed. That being said, I am introducing the protagonist's sprite as part of the update. He will have a fixed appearance but his name can be changed from the start. I feel it will help tie in with the story better.

I also went ahead and reworked a few things during Chapter 1, mainly the battle system is expanded to include ability codes feature. The protagonist gains this ability at the end of Day one, instead of planned Chapter 2 day 6. This allows the player to explore and experiment with the main character's ability codes system to exploit the enemies weakness. So the plot elements during day 2 and 3 has been adjusted to accommodate the change, but otherwise the Chapter 1 remained the same.

In 0.93 in the nutshell:

  • Addition of Chapter 2 part 1 story, which includes 2 new characters, a dungeon maze, and an interactive puzzle.
  • Reworked battle engine with ability codes for the main character.
  • All major character sprites will be converted to layered images, further reducing filesize footprint. 
  • Also they will be redrawn with better pose to work with the new layered image feature.
  •  Addition of protagonist sprite. He'll be incorporated during all chapters forward.
